Keyword Research is The Foundadion of Any Successful Internet Business' Search Engine Optimization Campaign.

Failing to do the necessary keyword research will result in your losing out on valuable, targeted traffic to your website:

Reasearch shows that your potential client is more likely to find your product or service through a search engine. Logically, you would be getting a head start on your competition if you know exactly what your target market is looking for on the internet.

In the pre-internet days, the saying "find a need and deliver the required product/service and you'll strike it rich" was the hallmark of every successful entrepreneur. But in those days it was easier said than done. How exactly could you determine where there was a need and even if you did manage to find one, how could you be sure that providing a product/service that fullfilled the need would in fact be profitable? Well, simply put, it wasn't easy and the few who enjoyed success with this formula will readily attest to the fact that it had more to do with luck or being in the right place at the right time.

The difference today is that you can instantly get access to various products and services which will greatly improve your chances of finding those very profitable niches where the needs of the online community are revealed.

Here we will discuss a few of the better known and more useful products and services used by some of the most successful internet marketers to find those "online gold" deposits which you could start mining in a very short space of time.

Sart by getting a broad overview of general demand for a product or service with Overture:

As the provider of "sponsored contextual ads" for some of the bigger search engines like MSN and Yahoo, Overture has been around for quite some time now. Overtures main focus lies in delivering keyword-targeted text ads to it's search engine clients. You would have noticed these ads generally located on the right hand side of the search results page after you type in a search request on a search engine.

These ads are called Pay-Per-Click (PPC) ads and are paid for by various website owners in an effort to enjoy increased exposure on the search engines. In most cases advertisers using PPC ads do so in order to get a listing on the first page of the search results for targeted keywords. This is especially true in cases where there is a high level of competition for that specific keyword or phrase and getting an "organic" (unpaid) listing is extremely difficult due to various factors determined by the search engine's algorythm.

Overture assists it's advertisers by offering them a keyword research tool to determine the general amount of traffic they could expect to receive for ads related to certain keywords. This keyword research tool is by no means the most accurate source of information regarding the exact number of searches conducted for a specific keyword each month, but it does offer a good general indication if you are considering marketing a specific product and need to determine whether there is a real "need".

Due to the fact that many of the monthly searches for various keywords are in fact conducted by people simply conducting research (much like yourself) or website owners simply looking to see whether they are in fact listed in the search results, it is best to disregard a good percentage of the searches reported by overture. A good rule of thumb is to simply deduct 30 - 40% of the figure shown in order to determine whether there is any real targeted "consumer" interest in the keyword or phrase.
